About Me
Ava is currently accepting new clients.
Hi there! My name is Ava. I commend you on taking the first – and often difficult– step in your therapy journey. I am a Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor (LGPC), completing my schooling at GWU. Prior to returning to school for this licensure, I worked for four years as a Rehabilitation Specialist at a community mental health organization in Washington, DC. This work, which focused on clients with mental illness and substance use disorders facing systematic barriers, inspired me to continue my studies.
While I am still very passionate about this work, my studies have helped me to expand which populations I am best at working with. My interest lies in working with adolescents and emerging adults, however I have experiences with all age groups. As someone who was diagnosed with ADHD in adulthood, I am interested in working with teens and adults with late-diagnosis ADHD. Other areas of my focus include anxiety during periods of transition, the junction of substance use and mental health, and coping with interpersonal or familial conflicts.
I approach each client with a warm and non-judgemental stance. I am passionate about applying a multicultural and trauma-informed framework to counseling. I am interested in what makes each individual unique, and encourage introspection with an empathetic approach. My approach is rooted in the belief that every person possesses a blend of strengths and challenges that define their path to becoming the best version of themselves. By focusing on the specific needs and goals of each individual, I work collaboratively to build resilience, enhance overall well-being, and move towards personal growth. With a profound commitment to empowering individuals on their journey toward personal growth, I specialize in providing therapeutic support through Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and psychodynamic lenses. I also love to incorporate art, play and activities into the therapy space. I have the best job in the world, because each session allows me to be creative!
Outside of counseling, I love to cook new recipes, catch up on the latest TV show, and play board games like Catan and Rummikub. I hope to take the next step in your journey, together!
