Ava Hardin, Student Therapist

About Me

Ava is currently accepting new clients.

Hi there! My name is Ava. I commend you on taking the first – and often difficult– step in your therapy journey. I am a counseling intern in my final year at George Washington University’s Clinical Mental Health Counseling program. Prior to returning to school, I worked as a Rehabilitation Specialist at a community mental health organization in Washington, DC. This work, which focused on clients with mental illness and substance abuse disorders facing systematic barriers, inspired me to continue my studies.

I approach each client with a warm and non-judgemental stance. I am passionate about applying a multicultural and trauma-informed framework to counseling. I am interested in what makes each individual unique, and encourage introspection with an empathetic approach. With a profound commitment to empowering individuals on their journey toward personal growth, I specialize in providing therapeutic support through Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and
psychodynamic lenses. My approach is rooted in the belief that every person possesses a unique blend of strengths and challenges that define their path to becoming the best version of themselves. By focusing on the specific needs and goals of each individual, I work collaboratively to build resilience, enhance overall well-being, and move towards personal
fulfillment and growth.

While my interest lies in working with adolescents and emerging adults, I am keen to work with all age groups. As someone who was diagnosed with ADHD in adulthood, I am interested in working with teens and adults with late-diagnosis ADHD. Other areas of my focus include anxiety during periods of transition, the junction of substance abuse and mental health, and coping with interpersonal or familial conflicts.

Outside of counseling, I love to cook new recipes, catch up on the latest TV show, and play board games like Catan and Rummikub. I hope to take the next step in your journey, together!
