About Me
Accepting new clients
Having graduated from Georgetown University with a liberal arts education, Maxim Goohs is a strong advocate of holistic counseling. He believes that to live life fully, one is bound to run into mental health issues. This is especially true in our modern day – social media, smartphones, and other technological innovations have greatly complicated the way in which people relate to one another.
Adolescents and young adults are struggling more than ever with social isolation, romantic frustration, and low self-esteem. Fortunately, Maxim also sees every mental health challenge – anxiety, depression, grief, etc. – as an opportunity for growth. Focusing on self-empowerment and creative problem solving, Maxim looks to help individuals not only overcome their mental health struggles, but also utilize them as a means of enrichening their own lives.
German philosopher Nietzsche famously said, “He who has a why to live for can bear almost any how.” Through techniques grounded in Existential Theory and CBT, Maxim looks to help his clients discover what their “why” is. For once that “why” is found, life ceases to be a burden and instead transforms into something much greater – a miracle.
In his free time, Maxim enjoys several hobbies. He is an avid (yet embarrassingly slow) reader, finding pleasure in old, dusty classics. He also has a background in writing, having optioned several movie scripts for full-length films. However, Maxim’s main passion is rowing. A past member of the Georgetown Heavyweight Rowing team, Maxim now coaches a nationally-ranked club of over 100 high school students on the Potomac River. Maxim will obtain his Masers in Mental Health Counseling in February 2024 from Walden University.
